Who are we?

Today’s PRD consists of three fantastic and thematic home teams. The gangsters of the  Mob Squad. The daddy’s money lovin’ Old Money Honeys. The toxic athletic dynamos The Sakonnet River Roller Rats.We train them well and then send this intensity on wheels out of state. The best skaters from these teams comprise our  travel teams. They scrimmage and bout with other WFTDA skaters away from home. They get ranked nationally and defend our Rhode Island pride, respectively. The no-nonsense “We Can Do It!” all star roller girls The Rhode Island Riveters, and our second in command, our  stellar stingin’ B-Team  The Killah Bees. Providence gives viewers a chance to see real, full contact, flat track roller derby! If you see a bout, you will experience this intensity first hand, and will know why we have skaters, refs, and volunteers from all over New England, and fans all over the world. Root for us, but be sure to see flat track roller derby any chance you get!

2004-2009 As the first Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby League in New England, and the only roller derby league in Rhode Island, Providence Roller Derby is one of the original registered members of the WFTDA. PRD was born in 2004 when Sarah “Doom” Kingan #4.0, a Brown University alumni, returned from Tuscon Roller Derby while on an internship in Arizona and fell in love with the game! Back in 2004, there weren’t too many leagues around us, but now, in 2009, that’s a different story. There are now local leagues like Maine Roller Derby, Boston Derby Dames, Connecticut Roller Girls, and New Hampshire’s “Skate Free or Die.” The number of registered WFTDA leagues just keeps growing, and we love that! Especially since it gives us an increasing number of teams to “bout” against!
